Sir,
With reference to the letter from the Colonial
office, addressed to your department on 2nd August last,
and previous correspondence on the subject of the military
contribution to be paid by Hong Kong for the five
years 1894 to 1898, I am directed by the Secretary of
State for War to request that he may be informed
whether the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's
Treasury have received any further communication from
Lord Ripon on the subject.
I am to point out that, although the Colony
continues to pay a contribution at the rate of £40,000
per annum, no instructions appear to have been sent
to the Colonial Government as to the amount to be
paid for the year 1894, nor has the District Paymaster
received any instructions as to the claims which should
be
