I am desired by Viscount Cross to

acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 23rd July,

and to acquaint you in reply that the Nawab of Basoda,

on the occasion of his projected visit to Algiers,

Tunis,

Morocco etc., should only receive from Her Majesty's

Consular Representatives such attentions as would be

shown to any gentleman of rank, who would be recommended

to their good offices, and the letter of introduction

with which the Nawab has been furnished is granted with

the object of securing him a friendly reception by the

local authorities in the places which he proposes to

visit, and to facilitate his inspection of institutions

and buildings of public interest.

It is not intended that public honours

should be accorded to him, and I am to add that no

notification has yet been received of the date of the

Nawab's intended journey.
