sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your
letter of 14th June, respecting the cost of certain medical
stores supplied to the Government of Hong Kong, and to re-
turn the enclosure which accompanied it.
We have had further correspondence with Mr Hicks
recandia sukelt
ed the following information. He states that the price
list which he sent Dr Crowe was a "special price list for
"America, where clinical thermometers are ordered in very
*large quantities and that it was sent to Hong Kong by a
mistake of his clerk. In this list, of which he has sent
us a copy, the trade price is quoted as 40- per dozen; and
nothing is said about large or small quantities. In the
price list which Mr Hicks says ought to have been sent,
thermometers are quoted at 009- per dozen, and no trade
price or discount is mentioned at all. In this connection
I may say that the practice of selling in America at very
low rates to undersell the market is not uncommon. Con-
versely American goods can be had in England cheaper than
in America.
