urgently indented for and the first instalment of that tel-
egraphed for on the 18th instant, will make it necessary to
advance the Colony about £40,000 in addition to its current
requirements.
Having regard to the amount of the funds at
present at our disposal from which such advances can be
made, it is probable that we may have to resume drawing on
Hong Kong towards the end of August when the silver required
for another instalment of coin must be purchased.
As soon as we are able to estimate resources and
requirements more closely we will telegraph to Hong Kong,
so as to give the Governor as early an intimation as possi-
ble of the resumption of drawing.
