Sir,
I have the nonour to acknow-
ledge the receipt of your despatch No.
263 of the 20th ultimo ana to, sanction
the grant of a Superannuation allowance
at the rate of 300 dollars per annum,
from the 1st of November next, inclusive
ly, to Mr. Chow Kwai Un, Second Inter-
preter in the Magistracy, Hong Kong.
In view of my preaccessor's
Circular despatch of 19th February 1894
and the fact that Mr.Chow Kwai Un's
state of health appears to be dug to
intemperate habits, I have felt
unable to sanction the grant of the
full pansion of $316.51 per annum.
