his intention of retiring from the service upon attaining the age of 55 years in February next,
and to recommend that the opportunity be availed of to~ abolish the posts of Chief Clerk in the Colonial Secretary's Office 1 and Clerk of Councils (a recom
mendation of the Retrenchment Committee which has already received Your Lordship's approval) by the transfer of Mr. Seth, the present holder of those offices to the Deputy-Registrarship

succession.

Mr. Seth's present emolu_
ments amount to $4,536 per
annum as
against #3,240 (ex- clusive of the personal allow- ance drawn by Mr. Sangster) at tached to the post of Deputy-~ Registrar. He should of course
be allowed to continue to draw
salary at the former rate, but the arrangement will effect a saving of the amount of the Deputy Registrar's salary #3,240 per
annumz.
