I was called upon some year or more ago by the drainage authorities to redrain this lot at a cost of of 1.340, with the result that constant complaints are being made of inundations of ground floors and outhouses.

It seems to me before any new drainage system was decided upon the habits of the Chinese should have bren more

& fully considered and provided for and I think

this has greatly to do with the present difficulty.

The Arrubile does not arise from the mains drain but from the brauch drain itself, which, I am informed, becomes choked with shavings owing to the operations of some rattan-workers who occupy a part of the property.

This is a matter for the Sanitary Board and I submit that these papers
