The Store Accounts of the Gaol were
thoroughly examined, and form the subject of a separate
report; (see my letter No 14/13 of 22nd August last).

The Police Store Accounts were largely
tested and stock taken satisfactorily.

Under instructions from the Comptroller
and Auditor General and at the request of the Colonial
Government, the Director of Public Works and myself are at
present engaged in drawing up draft rules for the uidance
of Store Accountants.

The Money Order Accounts were examined
in detail, and the annual balance sheet thoroughly checked
with the lists of advices from other countries. The
profit on the transactions for 1892, which was the subject
of a special correspondence, is to be brought to account
as Revenue with the profit for 1893, when the latter is
ascertained, which should be about May next, as the Money
Order Accounts cannot finally be closed till the various
countries with whom we have transactions have agreed to
their correctness.

During 1893 a local examination of the
Post Offices at Shanghai and the Northern Ports was made,
and formed the subject of a special report; (see my letter
No 1/43 of 31st July, 1893).
16.
The number of Queries raised locally was
109, and most of them have been settled satisfactorily,
and the remainder will no doubt be before lone.
17.
Mr C.C.Bowring arrived from Somerset
House as my Assistant in January, 1893, and the readiness
with which he learnt the Revenue Accounts, and the rood
