No 28/12/94.
Sir,
Audit Office,
Hong Kong, 27th July 94.
With reference to my letter No 72, of 12th March,
1891, and to your reply No 134 of 28th May,
1891, on the
subject of the percentage to be paid by the Governor for
the use of the furniture in the private rooms at Government
House, under Colonial Office Regulation No 284, I have the
honour to inform you that in February last I called the
attention of the Treasurer to the fact that the percentage
due was in arrear from 1st July, 1892.
A considerable amount of correspondence
ensued as to what furniture the percentage should be paid
on as it would appear that in former years, interest was
paid on the value of the whole of the China, Glass, &c.,
although the major portion of articles of this nature was
used for public entertainments only.
On 23rd June last the Acting Director of
Public Works submitted inventories of the whole of the
furniture in Government Howe and "Craigieburn" ( a house
hired for the Governor's residence at the Peak during the
summer), together with inventories of the furniture in the
private rooms on which interest should be paid.
total value of the latter was $2,944.75, and as on the
occasion of the last payment by His Excellency in November
The
1892,
