The Hongkong General Chamber of Commerce having forwarded
appointed a copy of the Report of the Special Committed to consider the
expediency of evining a British dollar to the Shanghai Committee
of the China Association with a request for their co-operation
and support, the Shanghai Committee invited the Managers of the
English Banks having branches in Changhai but not represented
on the Committee, to confer with them upon the course to be
adopted; and a meeting was held to-day, when it was RESOLVED
That the donclusions arrived at by the Special Committee are
fully justified, and that the coinage of a British dollar will
benefit British trade with China generally.

In according their full support to the report of the Special
Committee and particularly to the final paragraph of that
report, the Committee of the China Association in Shanghai
desire to point out that the coinage of a British silver dollar
has been urged by them in a communication addressed to the
Government of India, dated September 25th.1693, and transmitted
by the latter to the Secretary of State for India for the in-
formation of Her Majesty's Government, as a material factor in
the possible solution of the Silver question.
Copies of this resolution signed by the Committee and the
Kunagora of the Banks present, to be forwarded to the Hongkong
General Chamber of Commerce and to the General Committee in
London,
