CHINA ASSOCIATION,

HONGKONG, 24th January, 1894.

Dear Sir,

I have the pleasure to hand you the enclosed copy of a Report prepared by a Special Committee appointed by the Hongkong Chamber to enquire into the desirability, in the interests of trade, of the coinage of a British dollar for circulation in the Straita, Hongkong and China. The argumants advanced are quite in accordance with those put forward by the Shanghai Branch of the Assosiation, and the suggestion seems to be generally approved of at the proposed points of circulation. The Governor of Hongkong telegraphed last week, it is said, urging the Home Government to sanction the proposed coinage and the local Banka are moving in a similar direction.

The Committee are telegraphing asking your assistance in support of the action of the Hongkong Chamber.
