will as soon as may be required proceed to Hong Kong and shall and will immediately on his arrival there faithfully and diligently employ himself in and about the said works or other like work as aforesaid and in any such manner in all respects thereto required by the said Government or their representative and shall and will for the space of Three years commencing as aforesaid faithfully and diligently employ himself in all respects as he may from time to time be required to do by the said Government or their representative.
2. The said William Bidgood shall not either directly or indirectly engage or be concerned in any other service or business whatsoever but shall devote the whole of his time and attention to the service of the said Government and shall use his utmost exertions to promote the interests of the Government.

The said Government does hereby in consideration of the due and faithful performance by the said William Bidgood of the terms of this Agreement agree to pay to the said William Bidgood the sum of One hundred and thirty-five dollars ($135) for every calendar month during which the said William Bidgood shall be at work or willing and able to work for the said Government or for any other person or persons to be nominated by them as and by way of wages for his services as aforesaid such wages to commence on the day the said William Bidgood presents himself on the said works.

The Government shall provide the said William Bidgood with a Second Class passage from England to Hong Kong (including journey to place of embarkation) and provided his conduct shall have been satisfactory, back again to England (including journey from port of arrival) at the termination of this Agreement and shall allow him half pay during the voyage out and home again and in the event of the said William Bidgood being compelled by reason of ill health not caused by his impropriety of conduct but not otherwise, to resign his appointment the said Government shall provide him with a return passage upon his producing a Medical Certificate to that effect.
If the said William Bidgood during the continuance of this Agreement should absent himself from duty through ill health he shall produce a Medical Certificate to the Surveyor General of the Colony to that effect and if his sickness should be caused through his impropriety of conduct or if he should absent himself from his work from any cause whatever without leave he shall forfeit his wages for the number of days he shall be absent from duty.
In the event of the said William Bidgood failing to depart for Hong Kong as hereinbefore agreed or on his arrival there, being guilty of drunkenness, insubordination or neglecting or failing or refusing to comply with all the orders and directions of the said Government or their representative or to perform all or any of the stipulations, provisions and Agreements hereinbefore contained and in ...
