8. I have however to ask Your Lordship's approval for an increase of $1,200 to the expenditure of the Public Works' Department for the salary of a clerk. The Director of Public Works has represented that the appointment of such a clerk is necessary for the efficiency of his department. I attach a report from him on the subject. In that report the Unofficial members concurred and as the Unofficial members agreed to the additional expenditure I trust that there will be no objection to this vote.
9. There is also an increase in the expenditure of the Janitary Department. This is due to the employment of additional staff which I consider is absolutely necessary for maintaining the Colony in a proper sanitary condition. I feel sure this expenditure will be approved of Authorised
