How we did not, as is assumed, forget the interests of Jardine Matheson & Co., that we unofficially consulted Mr.
one of their partners, before fixing this duty on Refined Sugar,
Keswick agreeing (see minute 11309/94 General).
But the particular effect of the provisions of clause I of
the prices for converting the ad valorem duty into
specific duty based on
the six months previous to 16 July 1894, which period (it is here alleged) were abnormally high.
