that His Excellency
did not consider the
statement was a reflection
on my
Department.

earnestly point out that this base
charge
had been made public
and had gone forth
to all who
now or at any future time read the Report of
the
Retrenchment Commission,
and
therefore while thanking His Excellency the Governor for having corrected any wrong impression which Your Lordship might have formed as to the honesty of the officers

Acting Colonial Secretary that:

not consider it necessary,
to take any further action
and it is with reluctance that I am
obliged
to take the extreme course of
appealing to Your Lordship
against this last decision
of
the Governor
my superior officer, of the Colony,
and I trust that
my previous record in Her Majesty's Service, both Imperial
and Colonial, will be accepted
by Your Lordship as sufficient
Guarantee
