arrangements and distribution of pay were made.
6. On the Surveyor's Work Arrangement
vacant during the recent absence on leave of the Harbour Master Francis Cooper, his available staff officers were put on half pay, and the work of this department was distributed among the officers of other departments and paid them in addition to the full pay of their own duties. The officers doing by far the greater portion of Mr. Jonas' work as well as my extra work for the last four months were paid extra pay. I shall have to do this work for the next four months.
Unless your Lordship sees fit to sanction and approve the Harbour Master's original proposal, based on the precedent of the last sixteen months, I shall only get $6.25 a month for the nine months to cover myself for all this extra work, instead of $35.00 a month, as I reasonably expected when I consented to Mr. Jones going on leave and agreed to undertake his duties.
