My question is a simpler one.
Ours 1st. Boarding Offices, Mr. Jones has gone on leave, and from the 26th. August last he ceased to draw full pay and his half pay became available. When he went on leave, no one was appointed acting in his place, so that no one was entitled under the Rules of the Service to that half pay. Our arrangement made was that the work of the 1st. Boarding Officer should be distributed among four other officers of the department, namely (2nd. Boarding Officers), Mr. Chagas, Assistant Junior Inspector, M. Collaco Junior Inspector, and Mr. Cury, the Clerk, and the Honourable the Harbour Master was so good as to recommend that the half pay, when available, should be distributed amongst the four in proportion to the amount of extra work thrown on each by the arrangement: to myself $36.00 a month; Mr. Chagas $20.00; M. Collaco $15.00; and Mr. Cury $10.00.
