The supply of Hongkong subsidiary Coinage has apparently created a demand for them among the Chinese merchants and Bankers who have recognized the superiority of its undeviating fineness, broken silver, coins, and weight over ... not only for purposes of change but also for those of remittance.

The increase in the popularity of these coins is eminently natural and should continue unless and until the Chinese Government, as a measure of confidence, supplies its people with a sufficiency of subsidiary coinage commanding great ... as do those manufactured to the order of this Government.
