of which is enclosed, and to inform Your Lordship that a despatch will be sent on the subject of the proposed resumption of a portion of Taipingshan when it has definitely been decided in what manner it may best be carried out. The cost is estimated at about $800,000.
In regard to the proposal for the increase of the Water supply I enclose for Your Lordship's information a copy of a report by the Water Authority from which it will be perceived that it is intended to await the arrival of M. Cooper before commencing operations. In the meantime I have to request that Your Lordship will sanction this scheme for an increased Water supply which is urgently required.
