Eruptions of boils, petechiæ, and roseolar patches appear in a few cases.
The febrile symptoms increase and the disease assumes the following well-marked stages:
1. Apathetic 3. Comatose
2. Delirious 4. Convulsive
In about 2/3rd the number of cases, cerebral symptoms make their appearance early, but at first the mind remains clear.
Vomiting of grumous matter mixed with disintegrated blood occurs in about one third the cases.
Constipation is the rule, but diarrhœa has been present in about 10% of cases.
The urine is high-coloured, high specific gravity, deposit of urates, and contains albumen in about 10% of cases.
The pulse is full and bounding at first, but becomes weak in fatal cases.
The breathing is frequently rapid and labouring.
There has been hæmoptysis in some cases, bleeding from the nose, and hæmatemesis in about 7% of cases before death.
At first, hardly any cases showed signs of recovery, but latterly the mortality has been about 80%. This is partly due to the bad state of health of the patients, but many are due to the filthy habits of the patients at the same time.
Lungs - congested. No hæmorrhages.
Heart - Empty and contracted.
Liver & Spleen - Paler but otherwise normal.
