I am informed that they are paid in, made up only from time to time. I have enquired into these statements - first of all, I was informed that payments were ever made and required to be paid in by the Bankrupt, but that the Bank Paying Book showing the sums paid in and the dates of payment was available.
As to the statement that the last entry in the cash book was on the 15th July, I believe there is no doubt. The Auditor was called for and examined. Mr Nicolle then says: "In the case of Bankruptcy No. 6, the latest entry in the cash book account was on the 15th July, although many have been paid in by the Bankrupt since that date." Mr Shepherd informed me that this was so, and that he had kept the various amounts in his own hands since the Bankrupt had disposed of stock, but that he had notes of all he had received.
I have examined this book, and there are a number of entries from the 12th July to the 9th October. Mr Xavier, who made them, states they were made on the 14th, 16th, 20th, 26th, and 28th July, 6th August, and 9th September, and October respectively. I am sure Mr Nicolle saw them because he asked where the vouchers were, as the sums were deposited.
