1. The alteration proposed by

the Stone: E. Bowdler amounts, as I understand it, to putting a load of 5/2 tons

and

of 5/2 tons

in each car,

then causing the cars to

perform one complete journey

up and down.

The additional

strain on the cable would be

that due to the extra load of

3 tons in

one

car,

neglecting

the weight of the rope,

45% in excess of that which occurs

with

a fully-loaded

car.

I

might

consider that this test might

be adopted but I think

it extremely probable that the

tramway
