The Mortality is very high at present. It can only be definitely stated after this Crisis is over. At the beginning it was practically 100% almost everyone affected dying. The high mortality may have something to do with the poor and badly fed condition of those attacked, but as in most epidemics of plague it is not advisable to lay all the blame for the high mortality on the low physical condition of those affected.

Prophylaxis. The Sanitary part requires no discussion. Medically I have so far insisted on the Sisters and attendants using Eucalyptus oil freely, on their handkerchiefs & also volatilising the same oil on the Wards by small lamps, some of the Chinese attendants were supplied by the Tung Wah authorities.
