Post Mortem Appearances. Contrary to all that one has been taught about the plague, put-mortem changes are

marked. The chief change is in the blood, which I will speak of more definitely later on.

It is very fluid & does not clot at all.

There is no marked change in or enlargement of spleen, only slight softening. Sub-mucous hemorrhages of stomach, intestines, kidneys, and bladder have been seen. The lungs are occasionally slightly congested at the bases; the heart is empty & contracted.

The most marked change is in the Brain and upper part of the spinal cord, which are always congested & sometimes acutely inflamed. The meninges are always injected. The Blood Corpuscles ...
