advisable to open Kennedy Town Police Station which had been placed at our disposal as a hospital as - the weather being very hot - the smell on the lower deck was not agreeable. I considered it also advisable to do this to be on the safe side as far as the health of our attendants and Sisters was concerned, as so little is really known about the disease from a truly medical point of view, considering it possible that a very large collection of patients in one place might lead to a concentration of poison, which, if nothing more, would have a prejudicial effect on some of the said attendants. After getting all this arranged I felt rather seedy for a day or two under the supervision of Dr. Penny of the Royal Navy, who has seen most of the patients in a very painstaking and most satisfactory manner.
There has been great difficulty in getting attendants for the patients at the Chinese amahs and boys at the Town Hospital - fortunately they could not run away from Kennedy Town without losing long service. The Steam Launch people also gave us a good deal of difficulty as none of them wanted to remain.
