any representation on behalf of the former to Your Lordship, such representation
must be sent to the Colonial Secretary within 14 days from this date. If any be received,
it will be duly transmitted to Your Lordship with such observations as it may seem to call for; if by the expiration of the period named, no representation be received, Your Lordship will be informed of the fact by telegraph. It is possible that on reconsideration the former may see reason not to make any representation to Your Lordship on the subject.
The words, "exceeding two taels in weight," appearing after "any opium", in paragraph I of section 3, were inserted in pursuance of an amendment carried in Committee. It is represented that in the absence of some such provision no passenger for Macao or Canton would be able to take any opium
