London Matriculation is, in my opinion, not at present within the range of practical politics; and to work towards it with the help of the proposed Junior Scholarships, capitation grants, it will be necessary to devote much, at present given to English, to a very careful study of difficult Latin and Greek (or French) authors, who are read by boys in England only after years of preparatory training in accidence, translation, and composition.
