Before coming to/ taking into Consideration the
question whether such
a
British Dollar should
be adopted
under consideration for
circulation in Hongkong
& the Straits Settlements, Lord Ripon would be glad to learn whether the Indian Mints could undertake to coin these
Dollars, and if so what
would be the inclusive
charge;
[For cheapness,
it might be
possible to
make use of

the object being to ascertain
whether such
a
Coin
could be laid down
in Hong Kong & the Straits settlements as cheaply as Mexican dollars, i.e. the expense of the coinage.
Lord Ripon
states that a slight amendment
of the Indian Coinage
Act would be required, but he presumes that
there would be
no
difficulty in this respect
if after further
consideration it should seem desirable to resort
to India for such coinage, & if the Indian
Government had no
other objection to the proposal.
