I am informed that the post of Chief Clerk of the Treasury at Hong Kong is now vacant, and I venture to recommend for your Lordship's kind consideration the claims of Mr JOHN WILLIAM JONES of Mountain View, The Peak, Hong-kong, a gentleman who appears in every way qualified for such appointment and who has already served upwards of 8 years in an official capacity in the Colony without promotion or recognition of any kind.

I understand that Dr Bateson Wright has spoken highly of Mr Jones's fitness for the position and that the Chief Treasurer, Mr Mitchell-Innes is also anxious that he should secure it.

I need scarcely say that I shall be personally gratified if your Lordship can see your way to favourably consider Mr Jones's application.

The Most Hon.
I have the honour to be,
My Lord,
Your obedient Servant,
Robertsberg.
The Marquis of RIPON K.G.
