At salary of $375 living to $600, orary scale and only in case of my long service to $720, would be full remuneration for a copyist, or type writer.
D. The salary drawn by Registration Clerk, $612, is much too high for the work of his office, the most important part of which is to assist the registration clerk. When he is otherwise provided for the salary should be reduced to $600 rising to $840.

10. Temporary copying clerks - two.
Amount of copying work in the office varies equally from time to time and it is impossible to forecast its fluctuations. It is necessary to have a staff sufficient to cope with it at all times, and it is not practicable in Hongkong to engage a copyist by the hour for occasional jobs. This being so, it is not feasible to reduce the number of Copyists in the office, viz: two in this despatch branch who when not occupied in copying despatches are available for other copying work, and two temporary copying clerks who in virtue of their designation are permanently employed.
