I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 4th instant, with reference to the disposal of certain Crown Lands at Hong Kong, at present occupied by the Military Authorities without written title, and in reply, to acquaint you that since the receipt of the same, a copy of the Communication, dated 7th instant, addressed to the Marquess of Ripon by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury on the same subject, has been received by this Department.

Under the terms of that communication, Mr Secretary Campbell-Bannerman presumes that no further action is at present necessary on the letter under acknowledgment.
