In reply to your despatch No. 193 of the 30th of November, I have the honour to request that you will inform Mr. Knollys that I have appointed him to be Colonial Secretary with a salary of £1200 a year, subject to deduction for contribution to the widows and orphans fund.
To succeed Mr. Knollys as Colonial Secretary of Barbados, I have selected Mr. Genge C.M.G. Melville, Colonial Secretary of British Honduras, who has recently administered the Government of the Falkland Islands.
Mr. Melville will go out in the 31st mail steamer.
