be obtained.
At St Mary Abbotts Infirmary we tried the experiment of having Army Medical Staff Corps trained Male Nurses to attend to the male venereal cases and found that the old system, whereby female nurses attended those cases, preferable.
If this suggestion of mine is carried out I calculate that there will be a saving to the Department of forty-eight dollars a month under the present system.
e.g.
We have
1 Senior Wardmaster @ $90 a month and 12 for rations $102
1 Junior Wardmaster @ $44 a month and 12 for rations $56
expenditure of $158 a month for these two officers.
In lieu of these I recommend 2 English Hospital trained Sisters at $40 a month rising to $60 a month by yearly increments of ten dollars; they also receive $10 a month for rations, therefore in 1894 the expenditure for these two sisters would be $110 a month. However as the Wardmaster will have to be on duty all day and may be called up at night, I would suggest that he receive an increase of $10 a month to his present salary, this would lessen the saving to this extent, that it would be thirty-eight dollars a month instead of forty-eight.
I am certain from previous experience that with a little difficulty there need be no trouble in the Sisters having charge of the Lower Hospital.
