I have established myself in the Colony at great expense to myself, another transfer after such a short interval would entail heavy expenses, and tell seriously on my limited resources.

I therefore earnestly beg of Your Lordship to formally consider my position and extend to me the indulgence allowed by rule 11:108 which has, both recently and since my acceptance of the office of Acting Police Magistrate been granted in this Colony to officers placed in a similar position as myself, and take the liberty of quoting as precedents the following cases -

(a) Mr. Horspool, appointed Acting Superintendent of the Gaol on 29th March 1892, drew the half salary of that office in addition to his other emoluments.

(b) The late General Gordon while acting Superintendent of the Gaol from 7th May, 1892 to the 21st November, 1892, drew the half salary of that office in addition to his full salary as Captain Superintendent
