"Hastings who is at present discharging the duties of the second Police Magistrate in addition to those of his substantive post of Assistant Harbour Master, praying that he may not be transferred from this Colony and that he may be allowed to draw half the salary of the office of second Magistrate in addition to the whole of that of Assistant Harbour Master.

The Assistant Harbour-Mastership is one of the offices that I recommended to be abolished on the occurrence of a vacancy, and Commander Hastings has accordingly been noted in the Colonial Office for employment in some other Colony on a convenient opportunity.
