Not having time to write a fresh one, and being partly assured by the manners of Mr. Rahman, for he kept constantly repeating that the case had already been settled, and, after assuring him that what he said was on his own responsibility, I brought the list to the Registrar with the intention of calling his attention to the matter; but, finding him busily engaged at the time with some strangers, I thought no harm would come of it if I delayed reporting to him till the following morning. In this, I was anticipated by Mr. Sangster, who asked me on Friday morning the 27th ultimo whether I had omitted any case in my list of the evening previous. I opened up the whole matter to him, and thinking that he would inform Mr. Wise of it, I did not report to the latter.
There is but one other statement I wish to make.
After the Registrar had signed the list, I handed it to the head coolie to have it hung up. But I was informed by him on the following morning that my order had been countermanded by one from Mr. Rahman to the effect that the list must not be hung up that evening as usual, but on the following morning.
The coolie likewise told me that Mr. Wise already knew of the matter, as he saw the coolie hanging up the frame with the list in it.
