"In your explanation of 10th ultimo, the Registrar and Mr. Sales were required at the same time to state in writing within three days any grounds upon which they rely to exculpate themselves, in accordance with Colonial Regulation No.84; and informed that, if they so desire, their written explanations of 30th ultimo to the Registrar will be considered as their statements in exculpation, but that they are at liberty to submit any additional statements they may think fit.

When you receive their replies in writing, I shall be obliged if you will forward them to me with any observations that you may think necessary. If no replies are received from them by the end of the three days allowed, I should be informed accordingly.
