dealt with, and as their emoluments exceed $600 per annum, I considered it necessary to take proceedings against them in the manner prescribed by the Regulations in regard to suspension from office. I accordingly requested the Chief Justice to cause both officers to be informed that it was proposed to take steps with a view to their suspension on the charges, to be communicated to them in writing, which are set out in enclosure No 2, and to require them to state in writing, within a period of three days, any grounds upon which they relied to exculpate themselves.

Their statements were transmitted by the Chief-Justice, by enclosure No 3, and as they failed to exculpate themselves to my satisfaction, I requested His Honour to cause them to be informed that the question of their suspension would be brought before the Executive Council.
