I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 1114 of the 28th instant. In reply, I beg to state that according to enquiries instituted here, the Japanese Yen circulates as freely in this district as the Mexican Dollar. That is, all compradores, bankers, merchants, shopkeepers in and about Canton do not make any distinction between the two dollars. These are taken as being of
