Hongkong Observatory

My Lord Marquess,
I have the honour to forward my application for increase of salary for your Lordship's consideration.
1. I was appointed to my present post of First Assistant to the Director of the Observatory, in June 1883 and have consequently been a servant of the Hongkong Government just over ten years. During this period, I have received no increase of salary nor have I been pecuniarily benefited in any other manner.
My salary is now $1560 per annum.
2. It was originally fixed at $1200 by The Right Honourable The Marquess of Ripon, Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies.
