I have the honour to be, My Lord Marquess, Your Lordship's Most Obedient

Humble Servant,

William Doberck

Director

Hongkong Observatory

29th August 1893

No 67

My

Lord Marquess

One

of

the reasons for

the late increase in the staff

of assistants in this Observatory was the fact that it had hitherto been impossible for

me to take any leave of absence.

2. In future I could arrange to take leave of absence sometimes if Mr Figg were allowed to act for me.

Mr Figg was appointed in 1883.

The Marquess of Ripon

Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State

for the Colonies
