mind that you will, after getting home, in due course
take a thorough foreign
pension, assuming of course that the doctors consider you unfit
for further immediate service
in the tropics. You can recruit
your health & fit yourself
for reemployment in the tropics at a later date. There is, I fear, no immediate prospect of promotion for you, for the simple reason is anticipated:
that no vacancy and the authorities
will not guarantee you
in government. But, as you know,
you have a high record here, &
I have every reason
to believe they
will try to reemploy
you, if and when your health is sound again.
You should, before leaving Hong Kong, obtain
a medical certificate as to your fitness
for tropical service. I think
you should be guided by what I tell you
It is no use for you to break your heart
and health by coming out in the tropics
when Rome is had better "get charge of
and rest.
Yours very sincerely
