I have not the slightest doubt that these symptoms are produced exclusively by the extreme damp & oppressiveness that characterize the Hongkong climate, and that they would disappear if I were in a place where the damp is less excessive; for mere heat, of which I have experienced a good deal during my service, has not here affected me similarly. It is the combination of extreme damp with heat that has produced the result.
I am & Janically sound (barring a slight weakening of heart) which, considering the condition in which I have been since I came here, speaks well for my constitution.
And I am most anxious to remain in harness. And am confident that I could continue to do work for a considerable time to come if I were in a climate that affected me less disastrously.
