the Straits Settlements, informing me of his intention to retire from the service in October next, I have considered in Council the amount of pension payable to him by Hongkong on his retirement, and I have now the honour to forward the enclosed copy of the usual pension paper shewing the amount of pension and the other necessary particulars. A copy of the paper has been furnished to Sir Cecil Smith. The pension has been calculated on the basis of the suggestion contained in paragraph 4 of Your Lordship's despatch No. 74 of the 27th April last.
