Should it be objected that it was only last year I was appointed to the Office I at present hold, I would respectfully submit that in some respects, in recent promotion in the Colonial Service, I occupied the office again from 1882 to 1892.

Moreover I would beg leave to state that from what Lord Knutsford and Sir Robert Herbert both told me, I have reason to believe that when the Office of Puisne Judge became vacant in 1888, my claims to that Office were not considered owing to the necessity of providing for Mr Fielding Clarke. My promotion was delayed for four years.

Under these circumstances I respectfully submit I have a strong claim to your Lordship's favourable consideration of my present application and as I hope I have several years still to serve, I have the honour to offer myself as a candidate for the above mentioned office trusting that my long years of service and the manner
