As I pointed out on a previous paper, the women in brothels Chinese so strangly objected to the general medical exam, that in Hong Kong it was never enforced in their case, but it must not be supposed that these women get no medical treatment. They go to their own (Chinese) doctors, who are said to be able to treat these diseases with a very fair measure of success.

As regards the suggestion made by M. Lucas 8818, that Brothels should be registered, not as such, but under a general provision for Registering Lodging Houses, I hope very much that this will not be adopted, as it seems to me a more honest, and more likely to be effectual, to maintain the present open direct Reg. of Brothels than to adopt this Subterfuge - See also W.W.
