17.1.91. Visited the Dodds Botanical Station, after an interval of nearly five years. I desire to place on record the excellent work done at it in regard to sugar experiments - the first and best hitherto carried on in the West Indies. As regards other than canes the locality is evidently too dry and windy and the soil too clayey. It would be desirable to obtain another locality for experimental cultivation of economic plants.
(Sgd) D. Morris
Assistant Director, Royal Gardens, Kew, on a special mission to the West Indies.
Minute by His Excellency Sir F. Napier Broome K.C.M.G.
