the retirement of Messrs. Carvalho, Silva, and Freire from their posts in the Treasury about the beginning of the present year, I made the following temporary arrangements in compliance with the recommendation of the Colonial Treasurer for provisionally carrying on the work of the Treasury, viz.:
A. F. Alves, clerk to be 1st Clerk, at a salary of $3,000;
E. A. Carvalho, 3rd Clerk, to be 2nd Clerk, at a salary of $1,440 per annum;
J. C. da Cunha, then acting in the post to be 3rd Clerk, at a salary of $960 rising to $1,200 per annum; and
J. A. dos Remedios of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank to be 4th Clerk, at a salary of $900, rising to $1,200 per annum.
