As repeated by them, appears to me to involve an extraordinary want of respect to you. I cannot reconcile it with my knowledge that such representations have now for the second time been made, without desiring that notice should be taken of the fact, insomuch that I look solely to the obligations which are cast on me by the office which I hold.

I therefore beg leave to request that you will be so good as to forward Mr. Mitchell Innes' official letter of 26th inst to the Secretary of State, with a copy of my minute of the same date, and a copy of this minute, and with such observations, if any, as you may see fit to make. I am not at all actuated by any feeling of personal irritation, but that I look to the discharge of my duties as Colonial Secretary.

(Initialed) G.R.S.

Dr. 4.93.
