I have officially no position in the matter and my opinion, except those expressed by you.

I advised him to consult, as Sturmt... or express... in paragraph 8... his letter is in correlation with... in fact, the bearings of his care really were...

As regards what he said of my reference to Bankers, what passed between us was this. He said that he had no responsibility for safeguarding and I am unable to understand what he means by the words, "I now learn from you that..." in an unofficial communication I have had with Mr Mitchell Innes on the subject, after an interview which I had with him before his defence was sent in, and very shortly after the official letter was sent to him - (none has been sent since)—.

I thought well, out of kindness, to make sure that he understood what the bearings of Government receipts were, and I therefore advised him in a friendly way to consult any banking friend he might have confidence in, before committing himself to that position in his defence, for I thought that he would find that any... would help him that a Bank official in fiduciary charge of Bank money was bound to exercise due precautions to prevent its being stolen.
